PalmSource, Inc. (NASDAQ: PSRC) provider of Palm OS®, a leading operating system powering next generation mobile devices and smartphones announced today the launch of the Palm Powered MobileWorld program. The Palm Powered MobileWorld program connects mobile operators, infrastructure providers and software developers in a wireless ecosystem that capitalizes on the growing smartphone market.
The Palm Powered MobileWorld program consists of two key elements. The first element of the Palm Powered MobileWorld program is designed to make Palm OS the most service-ready platform for smart mobile devices by providing leading mobile operators the opportunity to collaborate with PalmSource to integrate their feedback and requirements into the Palm OS platform development efforts. The second element enables leading mobile operators to work closely with PalmSource to create a select catalog of software titles for over-the-air (OTA) delivery to Palm Powered™ smartphones. This MobileWorld catalog will draw from over 20,000 Palm OS software titles tailored to the consumer and enterprise markets, giving mobile operators the opportunity to increase average revenue and average margin per user by selling Palm Powered smart mobile devices with a MobileWorld catalog of software applications Announced separately today, Sprint is the first charter mobile operator partner in the Palm Powered MobileWorld program. PalmSource and Sprint will collaborate to provide the best wireless business solutions for Sprint's Palm Powered PCS Vision Smart Device customers.
