| Pocket PC owners expect
their mobile organizers to let them work on Microsoft Word
documents, with content and formatting kept intact. Pocket Word,
after all, is marketed by Microsoft as the mobile companion to
the desktop edition of Microsoft Word.
Reality check: Pocket Word's feature set is anemic. While suitable for jotting down a note, Pocket Word is certainly no choice for sophisticated word processing: No headers or footers. No tables. No outliner. Severely limited text formatting. No styles. Image support? Barely existent. Document conversion from and to Microsoft Word has a devastating effect on documents: As soon as you move a .DOC file to a Pocket PC, all features that Pocket Word cannot cope with are stripped and thrown away. Not much more formatting than bold, italic, and underlining survives. SPECIAL SALE: Customers ordering TextMaker for Pocket PCs or TextMaker for Handheld PCs no later than August 17, 2003 receive a discount of up to US$20 (20 Euros) off the regular price. The product is available immediately from SoftMaker's web site at http://www.softmaker.com and through resellers |
