Washington County, Maryland Selects Accela Wireless to Implement Mobile Government Services
Accela, Inc., the leading provider of government enterprise management solutions, announced today that Washington County, Maryland has selected Accela Wireless(TM), a software application that facilitates direct, real-time access to data in an agency's database from a mobile device in the field, to be implemented in the Permits & Inspections Department which is part of the Planning Department. The Permits & Inspections Department is responsible for processing licenses and permits, reviewing construction documents, and inspecting buildings and structures for code compliance.

Washington County has been using Accela for several years to centralize and automate its land and permit management activities. With the addition of Accela Wireless, the Permits & Inspections Department now powers inspection teams with mobile technology to shift their many daily tasks from the office to the field. Inspectors will be equipped with either laptops or handheld devices that allow them to remotely access their daily inspection schedules. While in the field, inspectors will input their inspection results and once they return to the office, they can update the agency database with their completed inspection information. The Accela Wireless application also has the option to transmit results in real-time for agencies that have wireless connectivity in the field.

"Government agencies are beginning to see the benefits of implementing mobile government solutions at their agency," states Robert P. Lee, Accela's president and CEO. "By streamlining the inspection process and giving field inspectors convenient access to enterprise data, agencies are able to respond more quickly to requests and provide a higher level of service to their citizens."

Washington County is home to more than 136,000 residents. The County joins several other jurisdictions in Maryland who are already utilizing Accela's e-government solutions. These include Baltimore, Gaithersburg, Howard County, Prince George's County, and Rockville. For more information about Washington County, visit http://www.washco-md.net/ .
