ritePen advanced handwriting recognition utility shipping with Hitachi’s VisionPlate tablet
EverNote Corporation (previously known as Pen&Internet, LLC) and Hitachi, Ubiquitous Business Solutions (UBS), today announced an OEM licensing agreement. Hitachi is shipping EverNote Corp.’s ritePen advanced handwriting recognition utility with its VisionPlate tablet.

The Hitachi VisionPlate is a thin client tablet designed for mobile computing and targeted to industries such as healthcare, hospitality and manufacturing. The VisionPlate tablet addresses the mobility, security and management issues of today’s enterprise, while increasing workforce productivity and cost efficiency.

EverNote’s ritePen allows users to intelligently navigate the desktop and write on the full screen in smooth electronic ink – and their handwriting is automatically converted into text and entered into target applications. In addition, ritePen enables EverNote’s riteForm advanced forms recognition solution, which adds context awareness to handwritten forms, substantially improving their recognition by assigning custom vocabularies and data templates to individual fields.

“Reliable and flexible handwriting recognition is a vital application for mobile professionals,” said Shighemi Adachi, General Business Manager for Hitachi UBS. “Combined with EverNote Corp.’s deep expertise in pen computing, we’re offering our customers the best thin tablet solution available to the enterprise market.”

The VisionPlate has an active matrix touch screen, arrives pre-installed with either embedded Windows XP or open-source Linux operating system, runs on a Transmeta Crusoe processor, and supports WPAN, WLAN, and WWAN wireless communications.

“We are excited to be working with Hitachi, known for its high-quality and adaptable computing products,” said Leonid Kitainik, Executive Vice president for EverNote. “Mobile customers will benefit from advanced handwriting recognition on VisionPlate in their general text applications and forms, anytime, anywhere.”
