Qvadis is offering free registered copies of Express Reader GT to all registered users of AportisDoc Mobile for Palm OS, in response to news reporting that Doc reader company Aportis ceased operations at the end of 2002.
All users who avail of this free "Upgrade to Qvadis" offer - available until February 28, 2003 - will have the same benefits as other registered GT users, including any future free upgrades, and the benefit of continued development of their reader software from a company positioned for the future. Qvadis was the recipient, in November 2002, of the first Innovative Technology Achievement Award from the Digital Literature Institute, at the Independent eBook Awards in 2002. Its award-winning Express Reader GT is the premier handheld viewer focussed on the open Doc format. A desktop viewer-editor system is also available - standalone as Express Reader DX, or in a bundle with GT as Express Reader Pro. "Qvadis has a great respect for the pioneering achievements of Aportis, Rick Bram and others who contributed to the success of the open Doc format," said Sam Peralta, CEO of Qvadis. "We hope that this offer helps underline that the format remains strong and viable, and strengthens its community of users." Qvadis also provides online access to a free ebook library with over 6,000 titles, all in open Doc format, and all compatible with Express Reader GT. While well-known for its Express Reader line of applications, recently Qvadis released Lexica, a powerful reference viewer, multilingual dictionary and translator system, and has demo'ed several other new applications. Individual users of AportisDoc Mobile for Palm OS who wish to apply for the free offer should email info@qvadis.com with the subject line "Upgrade to Qvadis". Included in the email should be the user HotSync name and proof of AportisDoc registration - usually the purchase notification from distributors such as Handango or PalmGear. Proof-of-purchase should be included or pasted in the body of the email; email with Word, image or other attachments will not be accepted. Qvadis will validate these applications, at its sole discretion, for the free offer. The GT download is available in .prc or .zip format for Windows PCs via the Qvadis website, and registration codes for GT will be sent by separate email to validated users.
