| Paragon Software (SHDD), one of the world leading companies developing software for Palm OS, mobile computers and smartphones announces today the localization technology of new Palm OS 5.0 and releases first software localizations of new Palm OS 5.0 devices into main European languages: Czech, Greek, Polish, Russian and others.
By default Palm OS doesn’t support most of national languages and Palm OS devices owners have no opportunity to work with national letters in built-in Palm OS applications. Software localization adds this feature to Palm OS making it user-friendly for national Palm OS owners and for people who study or use national languages in their work: students, schoolboys and schoolgirls, scientists and others. Paragon Software (SHDD) in cooperation with its European partners performed a set of works under basic national languages support of Tungsten T and announced the first version of PiLoc supported Palm OS 5.0 - PiLoc 3.0. Basic language support of PiLoc 3.0 allows working with national language in all applications of Palm OS 5.0 and adds national letters in the built-in system fonts, adds to Palm OS national on-screen keyboard layouts, provides modified Graffiti system to write national letters, etc. For example, customers can enter Greek letters, as well as save and edit information in Greek. Paragon Software (SHDD) has a great experience in developing software localization of Palm OS. Starting from co-funding agreement for developing Russian localization of Palm OS 2.0, signed in 1997 by Donna Dubinsky from 3Com/Palm Computing, at the moment Paragon Software (SHDD) is continuously developing localizations of Palm OS for 29 languages: Arabic, Hebrew, Western and Eastern European languages and Baltic languages. Localizations developed by Paragon Software (SHDD) have already become a de facto standard of localizations for Palm OS on European markets. “When developing localizations of new devices working on Palm OS 5.0 platform we performed the deep investigations of Palm OS 5.0 architecture – a fundamentally new operational system, on which the new Palm OS devices are based, - told Andrey Isaeev, the Chief Development officer of Paragon Software (SHDD). – Our many years’ experience in developing localizations of previous versions of Palm OS, starting from Palm OS 2.0, and close cooperation here with Palm Solutions Group, Palm Source Group as well as with official Palm Inc. distributors in many countries made it possible to develop the new localization technology of Palm OS 5.0 in the shortest possible time.” Paragon Software (SHDD) and its European partners plan to continue joint work under national localizations of Palm OS 5.0. In the nearest future the company plans to release the complete national localizations for Tungsten T with full interface translation to most of European languages as well as to Hebrew and Arabic. The full version of PiLoc provides as an optional feature the full translation of Palm OS to national language (desktop icons, menu, dialogs are translated). Palm OS devices become completely clear for everyone and look like devices with national version of Palm OS. Paragon Software (SHDD) also plans to provide developers with PiLoc API toolkit for Palm OS 5.0 that allows using functions of National Language Support System PiLoc in third party applications. About Paragon Software (SHDD) Paragon Software (Smart Handheld Devices Division) is one of the European leading companies developing software for PDAs, mobile computers and smartphones for all the most popular present-day handheld platforms: Palm OS, Pocket PC, Windows CE, Symbian OS and others.
