SEVEN(R) Announces Support for BREW(TM)-Based Handsets in Japan, Making Wireless Email Available to Millions of Subscribers
SEVEN Networks, Inc. announced today that the company's mobile email software is now shipping on BREW-based handsets in the Japanese market. SEVEN's software provides secure, real-time access to Lotus Domino, Microsoft Exchange, IMAP4 and POP3 email, calendar, personal contacts, corporate directories, network drives and desktop documents.

Japan's second largest mobile operator, KDDI Corp., is the first to launch SEVEN-enabled email services on BREW-based handsets. Keitai Office, http://www.kddi.com/business/solution/mobile/koffice/index.html , is available today to businesses in Japan. The BREW solution will enable Keitai Office to offer additional features, such as end-to-end encryption and offline capabilities. SEVEN has collaborated with NEC, KDDI Corp. and QUALCOMM to make this possible.

KDDI is pleased to be the first to offer SEVEN-enabled email services on our BREW-based handsets," said Yasuhiko Ito, Member of the Board and Senior Vice President of KDDI. "We plan to ship millions of BREW-based handsets this year, and see this as an opportunity to deliver our business users an easily managed, scalable and usable email solution."

SEVEN's best-of-breed approach engages key partners such as device manufacturers and systems integrators in the delivery of mobile solutions. By focusing on the company's core competency -- access technologies -- and leveraging partner expertise, SEVEN seeks to deliver industry-leading mobile email solutions at a lower cost for operators and subscribers.

"Teaming up with SEVEN and KDDI to bring mobile applications to the Japanese market is a win-win for everyone involved, especially the end users," said Mike Yuen, director of BREW Developer Relations, QUALCOMM Internet Services. "The combination of SEVEN's application, the flexibility of the BREW solution, and KDDI's next-generation network and expertise provides wireless subscribers in Japan with an efficient and useful business tool."

Katsuhiro Nakagawa, Vice President of NEC, adds, "We are pleased to work with SEVEN to bring new email applications to the Japanese market. Japan represents the largest mobile data market in the world, and an opportunity to serve our customers with the best in mobile communications."

SEVEN has ported its software across a wide variety of device platforms worldwide. In addition to the BREW solution, SEVEN is compatible with J2ME, Microsoft Pocket PC, Microsoft Smartphone 2003, Palm OS and Symbian devices, as well as Internet-enabled PCs. The software is licensed by mobile operators and systems integrators worldwide, and provides carrier-class scalability and performance. Built using advanced, enterprise-class security and encryption technologies such as AES, SSL and VPN, SEVEN's software is designed to protect data at all times. SEVEN was named Network Magazine's 2003 Product of the Year.

QUALCOMM's BREW system provides products and services that connect the mobile marketplace value chain, which includes application developers, publishers, content providers, device manufacturers, operators and consumers.

Publishers and developers worldwide are generating revenue from BREW-based applications and content, and 24 manufacturers have offered more than 120 BREW-enabled device models to consumers. BREW is successfully enabling the commercial wireless data services of many very successful operators, including Verizon Wireless, ALLTEL, Cellular One, MetroPCS, Midwest Wireless and U.S. Cellular in the United States, China Unicom, KDDI in Japan, KTF in South Korea, Hutch in Thailand, Telstra in Australia, VIVO in Brazil, BellSouth Chile, BellSouth Colombia, BellSouth Ecuador, BellSouth Guatemala, BellSouth Panama, BellSouth Peru, Telefonica Moviles in Peru, Movicom in Argentina, Telcel and Movilnet in Venezuela, Verizon Dominican Republic, Verizon Wireless Puerto Rico and Pelephone in Israel.
