Mobile DiskOnChip Enables High Performance, Secured Applications and Secure Boot
M-Systems (Nasdaq: FLSH) today announced that Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) has integrated support into its OMAP™ 1710 application processor for the Mobile DiskOnChip flash disk, M-Systems’ on-board multimedia memory solution.

As part of this support, Mobile DiskOnChip software drivers are included within the ROM code of the TI OMAP1710 Chipset, allowing for smooth integration of the leading NAND-based mobile storage solution within the latest mobile devices. The collaboration with M-Systems is part of TI’s overall strategy to address growing security concerns among service providers, consumers and wireless original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

This integrated support is crucial for secured applications and enables secure boot up from Mobile DiskOnChip within OMAP-based devices, ensuring that the operating system (OS) image is correctly and securely programmed into flash memory at the factory. Secure boot also allows software and the OS image to be authenticated prior to execution, preventing unauthorized modification to the code in addition to preventing the execution of forged or “spoofed” software code.

TI's latest OMAP processor will enable manufacturers to design secure mobile handsets with longer battery life. Cell phones that include the OMAP1710 processor will also provide an ideal mix of multimedia features and cost-effectiveness, making them more attractive to the high-volume market for multimedia feature phones.
