Okay, if you’ve owned a Palm more than a few months, you’ve bumped into this dilemma: You’re away from your office, you have a lot of new addresses, notes, etc. on your Palm, and the little battery icon tells you that you have scant moments left before your data goes off into the ether. Your only real option is to turn off all of the alarms on, shut the puppy down, and pray you didn’t neglect turning off something that uses extra power.

Unless, of course, you have the Triple Power Source kit. This kit comes with a standard USB power/sync cable so that you can use any USB equipped computer to juice up your Palm. If there’s no computer handy, plug the USB cable into the vehicle adapter, and plug your Palm into the cigarette or utility plug in your car. If there isn’t even a vehicle handy, you’re still not stuck. The system comes with a 9-volt adapter that allows you to recharge your Palm.

imageThe set could be a lifesaver if you ever need it. It’s not tiny, mostly due to the bulk of the cable, but it’s small enough to put in a coat pocket or keep in your car’s glove compartment. The 9-volt adapter actually has a key ring, but since it’s composed of two pieces that come apart fairly easily, putting it on a key ring isn’t really that practical (The newer version on the website looks more convenient to carry). It also requires you to have a 9-volt battery handy. Since most common electronics use AA, AAA, or button cells, it pretty much requires you to carry around a 9-volt or hit the store when your Palm gets low.

I’d have to give this a provisional recommendation. It’s a lot more convenient than your Palm going dead, but it’s not terribly handy to carry around. If you spend a lot of time away from the office and in your car, you may find the vehicle adapter alone is worth the price. For me, the Triple Power Source set hasn’t proven nearly as useful as Proporta’s other accessories.
