The Flack Jacket from Silicon Web Australia Pty Ltd was born out of ingenuity and the need for something better. Silicon Web stared out as a local IT company consulting in Crows Nest Australia. For many years their PDA of choice was the Palm OS based organizers until they came across the iPAQ Pocket PC. It was a natural fit. However like with many of us the OEM cases that come with PDA’s just didn’t satisfy their needs. After several prototypes and hard work they created the Flack Jacket, designed to be a smart, executive, leather style case that is well build for use in the office or the outback.
Silicon Web was kind enough to send us a Flack Jacket for an in-depth look. The first unit shipped to us was made of Kangaroo hide, I was quite interested to find out what kangaroo hide would look and feel like. However the US Customs required a whole bunch of red tape for the Wildlife Fish and Game people and it was sent back down under.Round two, shortly there after a package arrived from Australia marked “wallet-cow hide”, and so we begin our look at the Flak Jacket Case for the Compaq iPAQ. The Flack Jacket is made of very fine quality leather and has compartment like pages where you can store credit cards, ID, and the like. This section can be closed with the inside flap using a Velcro tab. They have included two large strips of Velcro to attach your iPAQ to the case allowing you to use the iPAQ sleeve as a permanent part of the case giving you the ability to slip the iPAQ out when it’s needed sans case and sleeve. However you do not need to remove your iPAQ in order to charge or sync the device, the case is designed to fit on the cradle! Very cool. The stitching is of very high quality and the leather just keeps getting suppler; this really is a nice piece of craftsmanship. Silicon Web also has a model that is designed to hold the CF and PC Card sleeve, and a belt clip version. While I would still like to see a Kangaroo model, I highly recommend the cowhide version. Priced at about $50 shipped you can’t go wrong. http://www.siliconweb.com.au 5 out 5 Stars --Bill Landon Senior Editor | ||
