Targus Ultra Mini Optical Mouse with Retractable Cord
One of the most difficult things about traveling with your laptop computer is packing and carrying all the different accessories that you will need to effectively use the computer. Especially during a long trip. Personally, all my accessories weight more than the computer. So when I find a product that can help reduce some of that weight, I cannot wait to try it. The Ultra Mini Mouse from Targus is such a product.

The touchpad on most laptops works well for basic pointer control, but sometimes you just want to have a mouse. The Ultra Mini Mouse is only 1.5 ounces and 3” x 1.4’ x 0.9” in size. This is extremely small. For people with large hands, it might be too small. I had a little difficulty using it for any applications that required using the mouse constantly, but for most basic mouse use it worked well. The mouse has two buttons and a scroller wheel button. A nice feature of the Ultra Mini Mouse is a retractable USB cable which makes it much nicer to travel with. It even comes with a convenient Travel Pouch.

This is an optical mouse, meaning it uses an optical sensor to detect movement. An optical mouse requires a surface that can be detected by the sensor. Unfortunately, most hotel desks have a polished and smooth surface, which do not work well with an optical mouse. So you will need to use a mouse pad or other surface for the mouse to work properly. Just another thing you might have to travel with.

The Targus Ultra Mini Optical Mouse is the smallest optical mouse I have ever seen. It is easy to use and plug-and-play compatible with any computer that has a USB port. If you are looking to reduce the weight of all your travel accessories, this may be the mouse for you.
