Proporta Aluminum iPAQ Case

The FedEx pack came in this time from Europe, East Sussex to be exact. I typically give overseas packages priority in opening, if only for the international intrigue. In the bag was a shiny blister pack containing the Aluminum iPAQ case from www.Proporta.com

For a couple of years now if you wanted to find a high quality aluminum PDA case there were few choices; until now.

pic The case is manufactured from 100% aircraft grade anodized aluminum with a thin neoprene lining and weighing just 48g (< 1.7oz), the aluminum case measures just a fraction more than the iPAQ device itself (130 x 83 x 23 or 5.1 x 3.2 x 0.9 in). The anodized finish has a nice smooth satin feel that is very elegant. The iPAQ fits snugly making the case a part of the iPAQ for all intents and purposes similar to the style pack your iPAQ came with.

For such a form fitting case you would think that it would allow you to cradle sync while it was on the device but I had problems getting it into the cradle. Proporta does not claim you can do this but I thought I would try anyway. It is very close to making a fit but is just big enough that it wont seat correctly. I think with minor modification the manufacturer could achieve this task or possibly someone skilled in the art of Dremel.

The case is comfortable to hold while closed and provided an amazing amount of protection however as with most cases that the cover swings open from the side it becomes a little awkward to handle when open. I would like to see someone develop a corrugated hinge system that allowed the cover to fold back behind the case.

For style, durability, and device protection the Proporta Aluminum iPAQ case is a 5 Star product but end up as with 4 Stars when factoring the lack of being able to cradle sync and awkward open case handling. The bottom line is if you are looking to provide your iPAQ great protection and keep its sexy sleek style this case will defiantly deliver.

The Proporta Aluminum iPAQ case is $39.00 and Proporta offers $3.50 worldwide shipping.
