| If you’re a fan of hard cases, you’d do well to take a look at the Proporta aluminum cases. It is very nicely finished in a sandblast-textured anodized finish that has taken a lot of wear and not shown it a bit. It is hinged on the right and clicks shut solidly with a clip that snaps over a plastic “bump” fastened solidly to the case. This extra little touch makes the case stay shut firmly while opening easily, and I suspect it will bear up under long-term use much better than cases where the clip fastens over a lump formed in the case material.
The Case has two small spring mechanisms with plastic glides that engage the back of the Zire 71 so that it stays firmly attached to the case, but with no chance of scratching. The spring mechanism makes it take a bit of effort to remove the PDA from the case. Since you need to remove the case if you want to use the cradle for hot-syncing this makes the process a bit fussy, but it’s a small price to pay to have a case that feels so firmly wedded to it. There is also a neoprene lining to add a bit of extra protection for your Palm and to further ensure that it doesn’t get scratched up. The case has holes to allow easy access to the connections at the bottom as well as the controls and the stylus at the top. As an added little bit of thoughtfulness, there’s even a cut-out over the where the speaker opening is, so sounds aren’t muffled. Most impressive is that the case is designed you can easily slide the Zire 71 up to take photos. ![]() There is storage for two SD cards in the inside of the front cover. This is a very cool little plastic “clippie” thing that I found quite fascinating (as did my co-workers). This is an extremely sturdy, serious-feeling case which is very nicely finished case which certainly appears more expensive than it is. It is a perfect case for someone who carries his Palm in a pocket or a briefcase and wants a case that is both stylish looking and adds protection.
