| Following the models X5 and X3 Dell now released the new Axim X3i, Dell's first Pocket PC with both implemented Bluetooth and wireless Lan (802.11b).
Technical details at a glance - 64 MB RAM / 64 MB ROM - Intel PXA 263 CPU runing at 400 MHZ - integrated Bluetooth - integrated WLAN 802.11b - Windows Mobile 2003 Software - SDIO-Slot - small and handy formfacot The Dell Axim x3i is very lightweighted and small, its easy to even carry it in the pocket of my shirt. It comes with a bright display, a little smaller than that of most competitors (same size as the MDA/2 display). Even in bright light the contrast is very good. I placed a WriteShield protector onto the display, even this didn't reduce the readability. Besides the 4 standard buttons the Axim X3i comes with two separate buttons: one to record voice-notes and a second to activate the wireless functionality. As I never use the voice recording I re-programmed the button to activate the bluetooth manager. This allows me to only switch on bluetooth, as the bluetooth manager by default turns on bluetooth. Using the bluetooth manager is easy, ist very easy to bond other devices. I notice much improvement since the beginning of bluetooth days. Using and connecting to wireless LAN is also easy, just a single click and youre in. Using the X3i even I could connect to the internet using "Work" settings without much trouble (as it usually tends to be). Battery life doesn't really satisfy my needs, the regular battery runs out of power at the end of a working day. The extended battery offered by Dell is a must for the power user. All buttons seem reliable and easy to use. Even the 4-way-jogdial is a big improvement against its predecessor Axim X5. On the lefthand side located is a 2-way-wheel for srolling up and down, pressing the wheel works as an action key. Above this wheel youll find the headphone jacket, infrared port is located on top of the device, right beside the SD slot. Unuasual is the location of the integrated loudspeaker: on the backside of the device. By default (at least in Germany) the device comes with an USB docking station, also included is an A/C charger and a special adaptor, as the device lacks a separate power plug, charging is done via the data port. Summary: The Dell Axim X3i is a great device at a moderate price. If you are a power user, don't forget to order the larger battery.
