Pharos Introduces its First GPS Smartphone and they named it….drum roll please; GPS Phone. Wow that’s inspired. While the name may not be creative the device surely is. The GPS Phone features quad-band, GPRS, EDGE, WiFi and Bluetooth - all in a lightweight, slim smartphone running the Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC platform; no UMTS/HSDPA however. They even managed to include an FM radio and the battery has up to 5 hours talk time; 15 hours PDA use; and 160 hours standby.
The digital camera has 1200x1600 (two mega-pixel) pixel resolution; GPS location stamping capability for future “navigation by image” function…whatever that means. Having the GPS location stamping is a great feature and they toss in Microsoft Streets & Trips for trip planning on a PC. They also offer a free three-month subscription to Pharos Smart Navigator Web-based location services.

Our globe trotting Senior Technology Editor Harvey Lee is down at CTIA right now and attended the MobileFocus event last night in San Francisco sponsored by our friends at Pepcom. He has sent along several great photos, met with some very interesting people and caught up with a few of our previous friends like Jory Bell of OQO, the folks at Toshiba, Linksys, Wherify, to name a few. Harvey said the food and venue was amazing, I guess the mini rack of lamb was so tender it fell off the bone. I have to admit I love the food at some these events, however not all are as well thought as the events put on my Pepcom. The MobileFocus event was held at the prestigious Fairmont San Francisco and housed many of the top wireless and mobile players in the industry.
Here are some photos:

This is Jory Bell the CEO of OQO. The new
OQO 01+ will have completely new touch screen components, double the ram, a 30 gig hard drive, USB 2.0, a universal AC Adapter and many more improvements. We hope top have a full review in the coming weeks.
