| PRNewswire-FirstCall/ PalmGear ( www.palmgear.com ) a subsidiary of Power By Hand, LLC. and world's largest and longest running Palm OS(R) based consumer marketspace, today announced continuing growth in 2003.
"Our fourth quarter revenue for 2003 was 169% greater than the same quarter of 2002 signaling a rise in consumer awareness of third-party applications and customer commitment to the Palm OS handheld platform," said Ryan Wuerch president and chief executive officer of PalmGear. "Further signifying our growth is the success of our Premier and Growth Partner Programs which provide our developers with unrivaled marketing support. Developers who have joined the Premier Partner Program have seen an average revenue growth of 421% while Growth Partners members have averaged growth of 235%. These growth trends are proving to be consistent and even accelerating as we've entered 2004." PalmGear's successful Premier Partner and Growth Partner programs were celebrated in October of 2003 with the company's inaugural "PalmGear Decaffeinated" Cruise through the Western Caribbean. Qualifications for the cruise were based on sales goals and more than 108 attendees from around the world joined the PalmGear team including developer partners and their families. "I am pleased by the product exposure, marketing support, and improvement in sales we have seen since Astraware joined the PalmGear Partner Program," said Howard Tomlinson, chief executive officer for UK based Astraware Limited. "We continue to see our sales driven by their efforts. It was good to take part in the 2003 PalmGear Decaffeinated Cruise, and I look forward to touring the Eastern Caribbean this year." Palm OS Mobile Content Consumption The pace of consumer demand for Palm OS software content showed steady growth in Q4 2003 as unit sales rose 29% from October to December and trial downloads increased 5% over the same period. Fourth quarter application sales by category reports indicate an emerging trend toward more serious usage by consumers of their devices; Utilities (28%), Games (23%), Business/Finance (10%) and Education/Reference (7%). "With thousands of applications now available, it is encouraging to see the diversity in consumer usage for Palm OS devices," said Pam Parish, vice president of marketing for PalmGear. "Other categories showing emerging promise appear to be multimedia/graphics, enhancements, personal productivity, and wireless/communications. As we've moved into 2004 we are seeing a rise in smartphone usage and customer demand from vertical markets such as medical and education." Expanding Distribution To provide its developer community with the greatest possible opportunity for success with their Palm Powered applications, PalmGear focuses on continually expanding distribution of their Palm OS content catalog. In 2003 the company launched operations in mainland China with headquarters in Shanghai and offices in Bejing, a fully-localized Chinese Palm OS site at www.palmgear.cn , successful expansion into retail distribution as well as many affiliate software and eBook stores in the Palm OS enthusiast community such as ClieSource and palmOne City. "We believe PalmGear provides an easy and convenient way for users to access one of the most versatile selections of Palm OS applications to customize their smart mobile devices," said David Limp, senior vice president, corporate and business development for PalmSource. "PalmGear's effort to expand software distribution and drive customer awareness of the many third- party applications and usages for their Palm Powered devices strengthens the entire Palm Powered economy." PalmGear's retail distribution program was officially launched in the fall of 2003 during their participation in Retail Vision and resulted in the company's program earning recognition as Best Technology and Best Entertainment Product for Retail Vision 2003. "PalmGear's Premier Partner Program helped establish our product," said Geoff Evans, president of NoviiMedia. "And as part of PalmGear's retail distribution program our product, NoviiRemote, can now be found in over 10,000 retail locations and was awarded Best Entertainment Product at Retail Vision 2003. The PalmGear team is focused and committed to our success and we are excited about their continued growth." Growing Forward Announcements made in recent weeks further indicate PalmGear's aggressive moves forward in the Palm OS content market. The company is focused on the growth of the smarthphone market as well as specialty device markets such as Tapwave's award-winning Zodiac(TM). PalmGear's strategic partnership with Pinpoint and implementation of Pinpoint Fuel, a carrier-class mobile content management platform that manages the sourcing, management, and delivery of mobile content, is positioned to broaden the availability of Palm software to the growing Palm Powered(TM) wireless handheld market. Implementing PinPoint's Fuel Technology will facilitate Over-the-Air (OTA) provisioning applications from PalmGear's expansive catalog of more than 21,000 digital media titles. "Our partnership with PalmGear enables us to deliver the vast catalog of Palm OS applications to our growing base of customers and distribution partners," said Judd Bowman, president and chief executive officer of Pinpoint Networks. "Providing Palm OS content through Fuel, our Mobile Content Delivery Platform, to devices such as the Handspring Treo(TM) 600 and Palm Tungsten(TM) W enriches the mobile application marketplace for both developers and consumers." In 2003, Tapwave's Zodiac(TM) became one of the first true mobile entertainment consoles on the market. With rave reviews the Zodiac is bringing video, music, gaming and PDA functionality to a new level. PalmGear recently announced a partnership with Tapwave to power the Tapwave software store, scheduled for launch in March. The new Tapwave Software Zone will feature Tapwave "Ready" titles, which means they have passed 3rd party quality testing and take advantage of the Zodiac's key features. This new site will build upon the existing catalog of premier "Certified" and "Tuned" game titles that are currently featured and available for the Zodiac on Tapwave's web site ( www.tapwave.com ). "This alliance with PalmGear was formed with customers in mind," said Byron Cornell, co-founder and senior vice president of marketing for Tapwave. "With PalmGear's large application library and Zodiac's robust set of features, this partnership will only enhance the experience for Zodiac users. Everyone, especially consumers, win with this partnership." PalmGear is the proven leader in delivering Palm OS content. For more information, please visit PalmGear at www.palmgear.com . |
