| New iPAQ with Dual Expansion Rumored for Summer |
||
| A rumor from someone who claims to have seen a demonstration of an upcoming
iPAQ, the 2200, from a Hewlett-Pacakrd representative has appeared on
www.pocketnow.com . While rumors have been flying around for sometime about an iPAQ
that would fall between the 5400 and 1900 series, this is the first time
this much detail has come to light.
According to the posting, the 2200 series will feature a 400MHz XScale Processor with the base model coming with 64MB of RAM, while a higher end model will have 128MB. It will include dual expansion with both CompactFlash and SDIO slots and will run the new next version of the Pocket PC operating system, which accounts for a estimated summer release. The poster said the unit is said to be slightly larger the 1900 series with black grips on the side for a secure hold, a replaceable battery, and a now standard iPAQ 16-bit color transreflective display that can be viewed for the first time in both Landscape and Standard view without a soft reset. As for wireless, the poster said the 2200 would have built in Bluetooth, but not integrated WiFi (802.11), as an SDIO card that provides this functionality is slated to be available at about the same time as the unit's release. Interestingly, the 2200 won't fit existing accessories. Another interesting development is a future model that the HP representative said would have a keyboard that slides from the back and automatically changes the view to Landscape. The poster said the keyboard was described as coming from the right side of the iPAQ. In addition, a phone option might be made available in the future. The cost of the new iPAQ should fall just under $400. |
