| Trend Micro Mobile Security Provides Integrated Mobile Phone Protection for Device Owners and Mobile Operators |
||
| Trend Micro, Inc. (TSE: 4704, NASDAQ: TMIC), a leader in network antivirus and Internet content security software and services, today announced Trend Micro(TM) Mobile Security (TMMS) version 2.0, providing enhanced antivirus and SMS anti-spam protection for data-centric wireless mobile devices such as Smartphones.
TMMS 2.0 provides increased device support with the addition of Symbian OS v7.0 with the Series 60 Platform (example: Nokia 6600, 7610). Pattern files can be provided "over the air" utilising the same method as mobile phone provider software upgrades, enabling rapid updates as new threats emerge. Management and provisioning is enabled through the TMMS Mobile Management Console, permitting mobile operators and enterprises to remotely equip, update and control the protection on client devices. Just as analysts recognise the risk to data-centric devices, so too are the handset providers and manufacturers. Claro(TM), the largest Brazillian handset provider recently moved to provide Trend Micro Mobile Security to its Customers as an added value service. Marco Quatorze, Marketing Director for Claro commented "Claro is committed to providing our 11,1 million subscribers with the best possible service in a secure environment. With the growing usage of Smartphones, Claro needs to be proactive in augmenting customer security. Choosing to use some of the leading technology from Trend Micro provides our customers with a clear advantage. Claro customers can remain ahead of the game as the risk of malware threats increases. We are looking forward to the release of Trend Micro Mobile Security 2.0 that will augment the existing 1.0 functionality and provide Claro with the opportunity to increase average revenue per subscriber (ARPU). Industry experts have predicted that mobile threats will continue to increase. Already in 2005 a number of new mobile malware have been identified, including the VLASCO family; which uses Bluetooth to propagate, and COMWAR, which uses Bluetooth or MMS to propagate. Trend Micro Mobile Security version 1.0 was launched in December 2004 and be downloaded at no cost from http://www.trendmicro-europe.com/mobilesecurity Version 1.0 will function until 30 June 2005. "Mobile phones and wireless handhelds are tremendous productivity boosters, but these small devices are mini computers that inherit virus risks similar to other computers. As the network perimeter expands to encompass Smartphones, organisations need to consider security for such devices. TMMS protects popular devices from the major handset manufacturers," ends Raimund Genes, President of European Operations for Trend Micro. Compatibility Trend Micro Mobile Security 2.0 supports the following operating systems and device types Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003/2003SE for Smartphone (example: Motorola MPx200, MPx220) Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003/2003SE for PocketPC Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003/2003SE for PocketPC Phone Edition Symbian OS v7.0 with Series 60 Platform (example: Nokia 6600, 7610) Symbian OS v7.0 with UIQ 2.0/2.1 User Interface (example: Sony Ericsson P800, P900, P910) Availability TMMS 2.0 will be available for testing in Q2 2005 with volume deployments in Q3 2005.
