Broadcom Delivers Advanced Bluetooth(R) Features for HP Enterprise and Consumer Products
Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ:BRCM) , a global leader in wired and wireless broadband communications semiconductors, today announced the integration of Broadcom(R) Bluetooth(R) technology into a broad range of popular products available from HP. Broadcom's leading Blutonium(R) Bluetooth technology is embedded within select HP notebook and desktop computers, HP iPAQ Bluetooth(R) Stereo Headphones, wireless keyboards and mice, dongles and other devices. In addition, Broadcom's Bluetooth silicon and software enable HP computers to wirelessly play high-quality MP3 and other music files over next-generation Bluetooth wireless stereo headphones and wireless speakers.

Enhanced Bluetooth sound quality is made possible by the powerful combination of silicon and WIDCOMM(R) BTW (Bluetooth for Windows(R)) software from Broadcom. This combination is optimized and tightly coupled to deliver the highest level of wireless audio quality available. The Broadcom Blutonium family of silicon and WIDCOMM BTW software products are the industry's most advanced and feature-rich, including functionality enabled by Broadcom's unique implementation of the Bluetooth audio/video profile, which is a new software component that dramatically improves audio quality. Utilizing Broadcom technology, consumers connecting to HP iPAQ Pocket PCs with wireless headsets can enjoy the richest possible multimedia experience over Bluetooth wireless links.

"These new exciting products from HP are prime examples of how Bluetooth, which is emerging as the premier wireless personal area networking technology today, is transforming the way users interface with their computers," said Scott Bibaud, Director of Marketing for Broadcom's Bluetooth products. "Broadcom is proud to be working with HP to deliver silicon and software solutions that highlight the real-world benefits of our advanced Bluetooth technology."

Broadcom's WIDCOMM BTW software products include the Bluetooth A/V profile for optimized audio quality over wireless headsets. Integrated A/V support includes: the Generic Audio Video Distribution Profile (GAVDP) for overall A/V functionality; the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP), which enables the streaming of music via Bluetooth; and the Audio Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP) that lets users remotely control associated devices via buttons on their wireless headset.

WIDCOMM BTW software is the most widely-deployed and field-proven Bluetooth software solution in the industry, ensuring the broadest interoperability among Bluetooth equipped devices.

"Our handheld and notebook computer customers are increasingly using our products as their primary means for entertainment and communications. This is a trend HP has helped drive, for example, by incorporating music and even cellular phone capabilities into our award-winning HP iPAQ product family," said Eric Kilponen, director of product marketing for Handhelds at HP. "Broadcom's leading-edge Bluetooth technology adds an exciting new dimension to our products by enabling the incredible convenience of wireless connectivity for audio and multimedia applications on several HP devices."
