| Handango Ships Java Download Client; Handango Enables Operators and OEMs to Monetize J2ME Content More Effectively |
||
| Today at JavaOne, Handango, the leading provider of mobile downloads, announced the availability of Handango InHand for Java-enabled mobile phones. Handango InHand is an intelligent, device-resident download client. Using Handango InHand, operators and OEMs can increase download revenues by delivering an on-device, fully-managed and branded customer experience on any Java-enabled mobile phone.
Several unique features of Handango InHand for Java include: * Brandability. Operators and OEMs can fully brand the entire client -- including all naming, graphics, download options and the content catalog itself -- to deliver a consistent brand presence to their customers. * XML Data. InHand is built on an XML data architecture, which ensures very efficient data transmission as well as the ability for licensees to manage the data feeds in-house. * Offline Access. Subscribers who are out of service range or who do not have a data plan can preview downloads within Handango InHand, providing a compelling incentive for establishing data service. * On-Demand Content. Customers can update Handango InHand at their convenience, refreshing the catalog with the newest titles. * Seamless DRM (Digital Rights Management). Handango InHand automatically generates device-specific unlock codes without any hassle for the customer while delivering rock-solid security to developers and song artists. * One-Click Interface. The user interface for Handango InHand is designed to enable customers to find whatever content they're seeking in one-click, ensuring fast access and high uptake. * Online Vault. Downloads are stored in an online account. Customers can access the account at any time to restore lost downloads to their phones. "With this announcement, Handango InHand is now available for virtually every smart or feature phone in the market regardless of whether it is running Symbian OS(TM), Windows Mobile(TM) or Java(TM)," said Randy Eisenman, president and chief executive officer of Handango. "This means an operator or OEM can now deploy InHand throughout their smart device family, differentiating themselves from the pack and giving customers a consistent and compelling download experience no matter which device they hold." Handango InHand for Java-enabled phones was developed in conjunction with Ascendo ( http://www.ascendo-inc.com/ ), a premier Java developer and maker of the top-selling applications Ascendo Fitness, Diet and Exercise Assistant and LangToLang dictionaries. Ascendo provided client-side development integrating the device-resident client with Handango AMPP, Handango's application management and provisioning platform, to create a seamless customer experience. "We are excited Handango chose to work with us on the development of Handango InHand," said Marc Bolh, president of Ascendo. "Offering customers a wide selection of premier content and rock solid security, Handango InHand provides a fast, efficient way to deliver mobile content to wireless customers." In addition to the Java edition, Handango InHand is available for Symbian OS 7.0+ and Windows Mobile-based devices. Handango InHand is currently bundled as the Sony Ericsson Application Shop Client on all Sony Ericsson P900's and as the Voq Software Store on the Voq Professional Phone(TM). |
