Oreillette BT BlueSpoon AX Review @ Freepaq.com

General PDA

image The headset BlueSpoon AX of NextLink is one of smallest than I know, it makes it possible to leave your GSM to the bottom of your pocket and to be able to call and receive calls freely.

This headset work with a BlueTooth connection and you must thus have a GSM or a PDA with integrated BlueTooth.

The headset surprises by its size and its not very conventional form, the model tested is out of transparent plastic of the shape of a mouse (with the earpiece with softspring, one would even say that it has a tail)

It has three buttons, one of function in the medium and two others on the both side to control volume. A plug in the back makes it possible to recharge the headset and to possibly be used as fixing with the carrying strap..

PocketKiosk Builder released for Pocket PC

Windows Mobile News

Askarya Technologies has released a solution for enterprises for running Pocket PC applications in Fullscreen Kiosk mode.

PocketKiosk Builder is a developer tool using which any Pocket PC application (.exe/.vb/.NET CF) can be run in fullscreen kiosk mode on a Pocket PC device. This way users can be restricted to use a specific application only and that application takes complete control of the screen e.g. you can run Pocket Internet Explorer in full screen mode, thus making sure users don't run any other application such as games, music apps etc.

Benefits:

1. Achieve full employee productivity by ensuring that only single application is running.
2. Avoid accidental device data corruption or system corruption by inexperienced users.
3. Ensure increased battery life as only one application can be run in Kiosk mode.
4. Utilize full screen area on Pocket PC devices having smaller display size.

PocketKiosk Builder is continously being upgraded as we have been incorporating feedbacks from our customers since initial release. Evaluation version of PocketKiosk Builder is available for download at http://www.askarya.com/pocketpc/pocketkiosk/pk.htm More...

Analog to Digital TV: How to Get HDTV

Quote:

How do you receive HDTV broadcasts? The three most common methods are via satellite-TV set-top box, a cable system set-top box, and over-the-air (terrestrial) reception from a digital HDTV broadcast station. Most digital HDTV and EDTV sets are "monitors," lacking an internal HDTV tuner for terrestrial reception by antenna.

Yamaha Player Piano Goes Wireless: The Disklavier Mark IV

Consumer Electronic News

The crown jewel of any home entertainment system has carbon-steel strings, felt hammers and 88 wooden keys, all in a rich wood cabinet. But it also has hot onboard circuitry and a touch-screen Wi-Fi controller that operates it from anywhere in your home. Nothing brings together new technology and traditional craftsmanship like the Yamaha Disklavier Mark IV player piano.

The Disklavier is Yamaha's modern-day adaptation of the player piano-it's a real, concert-quality instrument just like the ones top artists prefer for the world's great stages. But it also uses digital data instead of old- fashioned paper rolls to play itself right before your eyes. The newest evolution of the Disklavier, the Mark IV Series, adds features that turn the piano into a full-function entertainment center.

Using Yamaha's library of thousands of PianoSoft software titles, including the exclusive library of hundreds of Smart PianoSoft(TM) titles, the piano can play along with many audio CD titles from your favorite artists. Pop in the CD along with the corresponding Yamaha disk to hear the vocals and fully orchestrated accompaniment on the onboard sound system, while the piano part is played "live" in perfect synchronicity.

The Mark IV can control the entire system, wirelessly, from anyplace in the home, using one of two full color, touch-screen Wi-Fi controllers-a PDA- style pocket remote or a 10.4" touch-screen LCD tablet remote. Neither device needs to be in the same room as the instrument to activate all of the piano's functions, control the onboard music library or even create custom play lists. More...

Northeast Medical Center Deploys Epocrates Integrated Hospital Clinical Reference System-Wide

Windows Mobile News

NorthEast Medical Center, one of the top 100 teaching hospitals in the nation, has deployed a combination of mobile and online technology including the Epocrates Rx Online(TM) + AHFS(R) DI hospital clinical reference and formulary application, and an integrated mobile solution comprised of the MData(R) Enterprise System from MercuryMD and the Epocrates Rx(R) and Epocrates Rx Pro(TM) drug reference applications.

By combining MData with the Epocrates drug reference and formulary applications, clinicians can now launch into the Epocrates comprehensive drug and clinical reference guide directly from a patient's medication list, and access their hospital's unique drug formulary directly from their mobile device -- all while in the context of a specific patient, saving the clinician valuable time by eliminating the need to separately look up hospital-approved drugs and by reducing extra data entry. Most importantly, patient care and safety is enhanced by having access to up-to-date drug information, including interactions, along with patient specific data, at the point-of-care.

"Choosing to implement Epocrates handheld solutions within the hospital setting makes sense given the sizable network of clinicians who respect its content and value its objectivity and ease-of-use. Add to that the interoperability with MercuryMD's mobile data system and the result is a comprehensive reference at the point-of-care," said Jeff Patchett, pharmacy director, NorthEast Medical Center. Sony Ericsson P910i PDA Camera Phone Review @ OCW

Mobile Phones

The Sony Ericsson P910i is an upgraded version of the P900 phone which centres around the Symbian OS. As a PDA and phone, Sony Ericsson has taken into consideration the best of both worlds integrated into a gadget. The P910i adds on the support of 1GB Memory Duo Stick and an flip-on keyboard. The flip on keyboard is small and in reality, I wonder how many would use it for SMS text messaging.

Based on the Symbian OS, this platform has tons of productivity applications out on the net for trial or purchase. P910i comes with some and it allows me to view PDF files and edit excel/word files. Well, looks like we will be busy on trains editing our contracts and proposals as it is word and excel friendly.

Top 10 Holiday Gift Ideas for the 'Technosexual' On Your List

Consumer Electronic News

OK...I've read the list and while it is interesting....it also need some serious help. Expect a PDAToday approved list in the coming weeks....but for your enjoyment here is what Ricky Montalvo has to say...even if it is uninspired...sorry Ricky....Move over metrosexuals, there's a new guy in town who rivals your fashion sense but can also hook up a VCR. He's the "technosexual," -- a "chic geek" if you will.

Ricky Montalvo, who coined the phrase, is releasing his "Top 10" list of holiday gift ideas for the technosexual on your gift list.

"The technosexual is a man of style and tech sophistication," says Montalvo, a self-described fashionista and geek, who founded Technosexual.org in December 2003. Turnout Will Determine Who Is Our Next President

Off Topic

Anyone who's worked on close campaigns will tell you that the winning candidate is the one who has the most volunteers on Election Day.

Election Day volunteers will likely be the decisive factor in this year's election—driving supporters to the polls if they need rides, pleading with them on the phone or on their front porches, watching their kids while they vote, or doing whatever else is legal and proper to get them to the polls.

Most political analysts think that's why the Republicans did so well in the last midterm election—because Karl Rove put together one of the best Election Day volunteer programs ever seen. Until now.

We've identified the groups across the country that have sophisticated, effective, and energetic on-the-ground Get Out the Vote operations. See the information below about the opportunities to spend Election Day in your community making our democracy work.

You'll look back on the experience as a day very well spent—much more memorable and gratifying than just another day of work, school, or housework.

Funk Software Announces Support for WPA2(TM) (Wi-Fi Protected Access 2(TM)) in Odyssey(R) Client

Mobile Phones

Funk Software, a leading provider of network access security solutions, today announced Odyssey Client v3.1, an upgrade to their secure 802.1X access client that includes support for Wi-Fi Protected Access 2 (WPA2), the next generation of Wi-Fi security, based on the final 802.11i standard (ratified by the IEEE in 2004). WPA2 offers the strongest available security in the form of AES-level encryption (Advanced Encryption Standard), plus faster roaming between access points. Odyssey Client v3.1 also adds support for the WLAN protocols EAP-FAST and EAP-SIM and Microsoft machine credentials.

"WPA2 makes WLAN deployment safe for even very security-conscious enterprises," said Joe Ryan, vice president of Funk Software. "With the addition of WPA2 support to its already-extensive security arsenal, Odyssey Client is the ideal choice for any enterprise, whatever its security requirement. And, Odyssey Client is not only the most secure 802.1X client, it's also the easiest to deploy and use enterprise-wide -- significantly reducing overhead and support costs. It's truly the lowest TCO 802.1X access client."

WPA2 is based on the encryption algorithm AES; its predecessor, Wi-Fi Protected Access(TM) (WPA(TM)) uses the encryption algorithm TKIP. (Odyssey Client has supported WPA since July 2003.) In addition to AES-based data security, WPA2 permits 802.1X authentication in either ad-hoc mode or in traditional infrastructure networks, and accelerates re-authentication using key caching and pre-authentication techniques.
